Glimmering Matsu

From battlefield landscapes, Min-dong culture, religious beliefs, to natural ecology, each of Matsu's four townships and five islands possesses unique charm. This year, through the newly planned '2026 Glimmering Matsu Series Activities,' travelers are invited to delve deep into the islands and rediscover the beauty of Matsu throughout the four seasons, in a slower and more intimate way that connects with the land. The first 'Divine Light' to make its debut in the 2026 Glimmering Matsu series is 'Mazu in Matsu,' which kicks off the event. Matsu Jing Tianhou Temple boasts the world's only spiritual grotto where Mazu achieved enlightenment and ascended to heaven. Every year on the 23rd day of the third lunar month, a grand celebration is held according to ancient rites to commemorate the birthday of the Heavenly Holy Mother. This year, a special divination block (Jiǎo) tossing contest has been added. Worshippers who toss the most 'sacred blocks' can win a cash prize of NT$8,888. The public is invited to Matsu to make a pilgrimage, pray for blessings, and experience the light and protection symbolized by Mazu culture. The second 'Light of Music' will make its debut with three 'Glimmering Music Concerts' held on Nangan and Beigan for three consecutive weekends in September. The performances will cover folk songs and popular music, with exciting shows brought by groups such as the Lamigo Band. A 'Glimmering Market' will also be simultaneously set up on-site, featuring Matsu's unique delicacies and cultural and creative products, creating a musical feast for island nights. The event also collaborates with Uni Air and Mandarin Airlines to launch a raffle. The grand prize is a round-trip ticket to Matsu, with other great prizes such as airplane models and accommodation vouchers. Travelers are invited to visit Matsu in late summer and early autumn to enjoy an evening interwoven with the intoxicating sea breeze and music. The third 'Laser Light' highlights a battlefield culture experience through a Laser Tag Survival Game. This year, the Laser Tag Survival Game is expanded, with passionate battles launching for 10 consecutive days from July 24 to August 2. In addition to combat experience, it also incorporates mission challenges, motivational speeches, fixed-point target shooting, and geological explanations, allowing travelers to experience Matsu's unique military historical atmosphere in a real battlefield setting. The event also invites Matsu veterans to return home and participate in the battles, providing them with exclusive commemorative gifts. The event requires registration. Group travelers can contact major travel agencies, while independent travelers can participate through online registration. The fourth 'Dawn Light,' 2027's 'Welcoming the Morning Sun,' symbolizes a brand new beginning. The Matsu National Scenic Area Administration plans to hold the 'Welcoming the Morning Sun' event on New Year's Day 2027. It will lead travelers to climb the highest peak of the outlying islands – Beigan's Mt. Bi – to welcome the first dawn of the new year, injecting hope and energy into the new year, and bringing 'Glimmering Matsu' to a perfect conclusion.
