The Grey-faced Buzzard is also known as the Grey-faced Eagle. It is mainly named for the grey face of its male birds. Because it arrives in the Bagua Mountain and Dadu Mountain areas around the Qingming Festival, locals in Central Taiwan call it the 'Qingming Bird' or 'Tomb-sweeping Bird'. As it comes from the south, it is also known as the 'Southern Route Hawk'. The Grey-faced Buzzard is also the county bird of Changhua County, symbolizing the Changhua people's commitment, trustworthiness, and profound respect for their ancestors. It is a precious, rare, and protected species.

Every spring, from March to April, Grey-faced Buzzards migrate north from their wintering grounds, passing through Bagua Mountain. The local eagle-watching event has been held for 30 years to date. The event is organized to long-term protect the Grey-faced Buzzard and promote ecological conservation awareness.
