The Kaohsiung Spring Arts Festival will celebrate its 17th edition in 2026. This year's highlight program, 'Night of Japanese Edo Traditional Performing Arts,' features Mr. Denjiro Tanaka, a member of 'Sankyokai'—a prestigious family of traditional performing artists representing Japanese traditional music, composed of three brothers—and also an important intangible cultural heritage bearer. Mr. Tanaka has personally planned, directed, and will perform this event for KSAF, leading the audience into the spiritual core of Japanese traditional performing arts and offering a glimpse into a culture passed down through generations. The performance structure primarily focuses on traditional performing arts established during the Edo period. The Edo period was not only a time when Japanese stage art forms reached their aesthetic zenith but also when a performing arts system built on 'transmission' was established. Skills were no longer individual possessions but a cultural responsibility to be passed down through generations, continually refined and elevated. For this reason, intangible cultural heritage values not only the techniques themselves but also the spirit of transmission and the cultural memory behind them. Date: April 24 (Fri) at 7:30 PM Venue: Zhidetang, Kaohsiung Cultural Center Transportation: MRT Orange Line O7, Cultural Center Station, Exit 3
