2026 Wujie Zao Lang Road Run Carnival

Every year during the Lantern Festival, Wujie Lizejian hosts a unique traditional cultural event called "Zao Lang." This is a significant celebration for the eight major villages in the area, a tradition that has been passed down for over a century. This year, coinciding with the 200th anniversary of the establishment of Lizejian Yong'an Temple, a road running event will be held. Historically, on the Lantern Festival, male villagers in Wujie would carry deity sedan chairs to the homes of newlyweds for a blessing ritual, aiming to ward off evil and prevent calamities. The sedan chairs would be carried rapidly during the procession to expel evil and disease, and a fire-walking ritual would be performed to pray for peace and good health in the new year. Through the long-term promotion and preservation efforts of Yong'an Temple, "Zao Lang" has gradually become an important folk cultural heritage in Taiwan. In recent years, by integrating road running activities, it encourages people to enjoy the outdoors while experiencing this distinctive temple culture.
