2025-2026 Maolin Biennial Butterfly Watching Season

Taiwan's 'Purple Butterfly Valley' is as famous as the Americas' 'Monarch Butterfly Valley', both considered world-class natural assets. Maolin is one of only two overwintering butterfly valleys in the world. Every year, from around October to February of the following year, purple crow butterflies gather and migrate to the valleys at the foot of Dawu Mountain to escape the cold winter, only gradually returning north when spring arrives.
