Decorative Techniques and Painting in Ceramic Art — A Ceramic Exhibition by Lin Fa-quan and Wang Xuan-wen

Ceramics are a specialty of Yingge, Taiwan. Shaped with clay and adorned with colors, ceramic works display a variety of styles and aesthetic charms. After the ceramics are fired and shaped, painting is applied to their glazed surface. Precious materials such as gold are conceived as the final step of artistic creation, allowing different shades of beautiful visuals to emerge on the simple and pure white porcelain, and giving the artworks a perfect story through their painted themes. This technique, known as "overglaze painted porcelain" (釉上彩瓷), has a history of over three hundred years, spanning from ancient times to the present, and from East to West.
