I. Cultural Value of Yuemei Sugar Refinery Yuemei Sugar Refinery (originally Dajia Sugar Mill) was founded in Meiji 42 (1909) by Komatsu Nanmi, representative of Komatsu-gumi, a company jointly formed by Suzuki Shoten. The establishment of its mechanized sugar industry equipment was guided by Inazo Nitobe, known as the "Father of Taiwan's Sugar Industry." Today, it remains the only sugar refinery in Taichung City that retains complete industrial building facilities and a Japanese-style residential cluster. * Historical value of Komatsu Nanmi and Suzuki Shoten (Co.) in developing the sugar industry in Taiwan. * Rarity value of Yuemei Sugar Refinery's sugar production factory as the only new-style sugar production factory with complete equipment remaining in Taichung City. * Industrial and scientific value of Yuemei Sugar Refinery's sugar production system, including its hydraulic engineering techniques utilizing the topographical environment and the architectural history of its factory buildings. * Local value of Yuemei Sugar Refinery's sugar industry to the regional development of Houli, Waipu, Dajia, Da'an, and Yuanli areas, and to the history of sugar industry life. II. Young Cultural Enthusiast Returns Home Zhou Suru, the head of Rushan Cultural and Creative Co., Ltd., is a young person passionate about cultural promotion who returned to her hometown. Utilizing her professional knowledge as a guide for the sugar industry cultural pathway, she integrated community development talent and resource support networks to establish the Yuemei Sugar Refinery Sugar Industry Cultural Pathway Promotion Alliance. This alliance includes communities, youth, and schools related to the sugar industry's context and development. Through historical research and oral interviews, among other investigative work, she further systematically organized the local studies of Yuemei Sugar Refinery's sugar industry culture. Concurrently, she established a sustainable cultural education model for the sugar industry and collaborates with multiple local schools to promote diverse sugar industry education within everyday life contexts. III. Yuemei Sugar Refinery Sugar Industry Cultural Pathway Cultural Hub Yuemei Sugar Refinery serves as an anchor point for the sugar industry cultural pathway. The cultural resource points, educational institutions, and service points within the sugar industry cultural pathway network all belong to the cultural hub network domain. Rushan Cultural and Creative Co., Ltd. is the lead convener of the Yuemei Sugar Refinery Sugar Industry Cultural Pathway Promotion Alliance. As the promotion platform for the Yuemei Sugar Refinery Sugar Industry Cultural Pathway, it is dedicated to continuously promoting cultural experience activities that foster co-learning, co-creation, and mutual benefit with communities, schools, youth, and other social groups.
