The Jiang Axin Mansion was built in 1946, taking three years to complete. This Western-style building, considered exceptionally magnificent at the time, served as a venue for Jiang Axin's tea business to entertain distinguished guests and also as his private residence. Connected with Tianshui Hall, Jinguangfu Mansion, and Citian Temple, it showcased the Jiang family's influence, creating a unique cultural landscape in Beipu. The unique aesthetic of the Jiang Axin Mansion is evident in its blend of Eastern and Western architectural styles. Classical architectural techniques and decorative patterns such as semicircular arches and bay windows are derived from European traditions. From the exterior, one can admire various intricate and challenging masonry techniques. The Kili'an stone used for the retaining walls was quarried from Beitou, hinting at the prosperity of the era. The interior features extensive timber structures, mostly sourced from his own forest farms, with a mix of woods such as Formosan ash, cypress, camphor, zelkova, and Chinese fir. Delicate carved decorations carry rich Eastern auspicious meanings. The mansion's design combines beauty and practicality, with ingenious features like ventilation shafts and water spouts readily apparent, making it an admirable architectural masterpiece. Jiang Axin was a romantic individual who enjoyed adventure and innovation. For the mansion's construction, he commissioned the young, unconventional architect Peng Yu-li for the design, and all hired artisans were local. Thus, the mansion became a shared memory for the people of Beipu. Due to its unique architectural craftsmanship and its role in witnessing the history of Beipu's tea industry development, it was designated a county-level historic monument in 2001. Restoration was completed in 2018, and it is now managed and operated by the Jiang Axin Education Foundation. Jiang Axin's tea empire experienced a glorious era, stimulating the economy and benefiting the local community. Despite business setbacks, his commitment to nurturing talent never ceased. His descendants were able to revive the family legacy and restore warmth to the mansion. Deeply aware of the importance of education and nurturing talent, they inherited Jiang Axin's spirit of 'reading beneficial books and performing righteous deeds,' aiming to continue the ancestors' dedication to education and talent cultivation, and to promote the long-term development of the local community.
