UP Gallery

The Hsinchu UP Gallery building carries a rich historical context and distinct cultural features. Its predecessor was Hsinchu City's first private glass factory, established in 1925, and built by Liao Fu-ti, son of Liao Chi-ming, in 1985. This building witnessed the development of Hsinchu's glass industry and documented the transformation of the city's industry and culture. In 2009, under the meticulous design and renovation by its founder, Liao Yi-chia, this historic building reappeared before the public with a new look, re-infusing it with the vitality of modern culture and art. The exterior design of the gallery combines tradition and innovation; the formerly enclosed outer walls of the old house were transformed into a wavy shape and repainted pure white, giving the building a fluid and modern aesthetic while preserving its historical sense. The interior space subtly incorporates elements of Taiwan's historical memory, such as marble floors, patterned window glass, and wooden doors. These features not only display the architectural craftsmanship but also offer a glimpse into Taiwan's nearly 40 years of history.
