The Zhu'an Estuary wetland spans a vast area, offering a habitat that includes paddy fields, fish farms, and freshwater marshes. This diverse environment supports thriving aquaculture, primarily cultivating abalone, eels, and grass shrimp. The expansive, varied, and tranquil wetland, along with the abundant fish and shrimp brought by the tides, also makes it a secluded haven for birds. In autumn and winter, as migratory birds journey south, thousands of waterbirds of various species stop here to rest or spend the winter. Visitors can observe the graceful sight of waterbirds foraging and the beautiful reflection of rolling mountains on the water. It's a hidden gem for birdwatching and scenic views. However, in recent years, the ecosystem has undergone changes, and the bird population is no longer as plentiful as before, prompting reflection on the importance of cherishing nature. Beyond birdwatching and enjoying the scenery, the sandy beaches of the Zhu'an Estuary are also a place to witness Yilan's traditional folk activity, 'Qian Gu' (beach seining). During a fishing season, 'Qian Gu' involves fishermen using bamboo rafts to deploy a large net along the coast, enclosing schools of fish. Then, people on the shore collectively pull ropes to haul the catch onto the beach, with all participants sharing the bounty. Furthermore, this location is an excellent spot for watching the sunrise. In the early morning, as the sun rises, its warm yellow light reflects on the river surface, drawing many photography enthusiasts who come specifically to capture this serene beauty.
