Love challenging yourself with surfing, enjoying the thrill of riding the waves, or want to feast on fresh seafood straight from the ocean? Come to Wushi Harbor! The name 'Wushi' (meaning 'black stone') originates from the huge black reefs within the harbor. This fishing port, located in the small town of Toucheng, holds significant historical and cultural importance in addition to its traditional fishing functions. It was once Lanyang's largest port and a crucial gateway for Toucheng, with numerous merchants and daily necessities passing through. 'Stone Harbor Spring Sails' (石港春帆) famously described the bustling scene of merchant ships congregating and vessels constantly coming and going. Later, in 1878, a major flood caused extensive silt accumulation, and in 1883, a large American ship ran aground on the reefs here. Wushi Harbor subsequently lost its functionality, gradually declined, and impacted Toucheng's prosperity at the time. After its reconstruction in 1991, Wushi Harbor has transformed into a highly popular tourist and recreational fishing port. The original Wushi Harbor site has been designated as a conservation wetland. The harbor also features the 'Wushi Fishing Port Direct Sales Center,' a tourist fish market, and a yacht marina, offering visitors a full maritime experience where they can savor delicious seafood while enjoying the beautiful harbor scenery and vessels. Beyond captivating foodies, Wushi Harbor is also a surfer's paradise! With its flat, wide sandy beach and expansive designated surfing areas, holidays often see many surfing experts gathering to chase and ride the waves. The simple volleyball courts on the beach are also filled with children and adults having fun. The fine, soft sand makes playing beach volleyball very safe and enjoyable! It's recommended to also visit the nearby Visitor Center and the renowned Lanyang Museum during your trip to Wushi. This Wushi journey offers a chance to get close to the ocean, enjoy delicious food, and appreciate the cultural beauty of Lanyang!
