The White Lighthouse is situated on the southern side of Liuqiu Island, specifically on the western hilltop of Hou-Shih Skirt Reef. It is recognized as an international lighthouse and is also known as the 'White Tower'. Constructed in 1929, it stands approximately 10 meters from its base to the top, with an elevation of 88 meters from sea level to the top. Equipped with automatic day and night flashing lights, it serves as an important navigational beacon for fishing boats, much like the Eluanbi Lighthouse in Kenting National Park. For firefly enthusiasts, this area is exceptionally suitable for firefly observation annually from the spring equinox to late autumn. As night descends, one can spot countless tiny lights twinkling on the ground and flashing in the air among the grass piles on both sides of the lighthouse road. These are the male and female Taiwan window fireflies, diligently lighting up the tranquil midsummer night. Meanwhile, Swinhoe's tree lizards and brown anoles are often seen boldly clinging to the aerial roots of nearby banyan trees, sleeping soundly without a care, a remarkable sight that can't help but make one smile.
