Visitor Essentials

The former residence was built in 1935. It originally served as the dormitory for the Director of the Communications Bureau, Governor-General's Office, during the Japanese colonial period. After the war, it was converted into the dormitory for the Commissioner of Finance of the Taiwan Provincial Government. In 1972, Mr. Lee Kwoh-ting moved in when he became Minister of Finance, residing there until his passing. Lee Kwoh-ting was a pivotal figure in Taiwan's contemporary economic development. From his entry into the financial and economic sector in 1953 until his transfer to Senior Advisor to the President in 1988, he made outstanding contributions to Taiwan's industrial, economic, financial, and high-tech industry development. He was hailed as the driving force behind Taiwan's economic miracle and the 'Godfather of Technology,' with achievements renowned both domestically and internationally. The Taipei City Government designated Lee Kwoh-ting's Former Residence as a city-designated historic site in 2003, and a new exhibition hall was constructed adjacent to it. The entire residence has been open to the public for visits since May 31, 2010.
