Originally the newspaper office of Taiwan Nichi Nichi Shinpo, it was formed by the merger of two Japanese-language newspapers, Taiwan Shinpo and Taiwan Daily, and was the largest and longest-running newspaper at the time. On October 26, 1945, Li Wan-chu, representing the Taiwan Provincial Administrative Executive Office, took over Taiwan Shinpo and renamed it Taiwan Shin Sheng Daily News, making it the only official newspaper at the time. During the 228 Incident in 1947, the newspaper's general manager, Ruan Chao-jih, and the editor-in-chief of the Japanese edition, Wu Chin-lien, were forcibly taken away by agents of the Taiwan Provincial Administrative Executive Office, and their whereabouts or fates remain unknown to this day.
