The Taipei City Hall building, where the Taipei City Government is located, is one of the landmarks in the Xinyi Planning District, situated at the end of Ren'ai Road. If you ascend Taipei 101 and look down at the City Hall, you can see that the entire building is shaped like a 'double ten'. The Taipei City Government is the administrative body of Taipei City, established in October 1945 (the 34th year of the Republic of China). On July 1, 1967 (the 56th year of the Republic of China), Taipei was officially restructured as a special municipality. After this restructuring, the Mayor of Taipei was initially appointed by the central government until December 25, 1994 (the 83rd year of the Republic of China), when the position became publicly elected.
