Aowanda on Yangmingshan: For those who love the sight of red maple leaves, there's no need to travel all the way to Canada or Japan. The nearby 'Taipei Aowanda' will provide you with a beautiful visual experience. To enjoy maple viewing here, you don't have to patiently wait for the autumn and winter seasons; in spring, from March to April, you can already admire a garden full of red maple foliage. The various types of plants in the garden, including pines, cherry trees, cypresses, maple trees, and camellias, are all cultivated from seedlings, resulting in unique shapes. Among them, Japanese black pines and maple trees are the most abundant and are also Taipei Aowanda's most representative plants. What generally leaves the deepest impression on visitors to Taipei Aowanda is the annual maple foliage. The typical season for maple viewing is autumn and winter, and you usually need a cold front to pass through to see the red leaves. However, Taipei Aowanda not only has red maples in autumn and winter, but its best maple viewing season is from March to April, primarily because all the maple trees at Taipei Aowanda are grafted Japanese varieties. Due to the characteristics of these varieties, their budding period lasts for over a month with red new shoots. Later, as temperatures gradually rise and rainfall affects them, chlorophyll changes occur, turning the leaves from red to green. Additionally, there are many varieties with different colors.
