A nearly century-old building, a human rights movement spanning 25 years, and a place that gathers the life force of women. Since 1992, the Women's Rescue Foundation has launched investigations into former Taiwanese "comfort women" and initiated claims for compensation against Japan. For 25 years, the foundation has accompanied and cared for the "grandmas" (comfort women) both physically and mentally, preserving 5,042 pieces of related audio-visual materials and books, along with 730 artifacts. After 12 years of preparation and dedicated effort, the museum was unveiled on March 8, 2016, and officially established on December 10 as "Ama's House: Museum of Peace and Women's Human Rights." It documents the life stories of 59 Taiwanese "comfort women" who endured immense suffering. This is Taiwan's first multi-functional social education base, founded on the "comfort women" human rights movement, and integrating exhibitions on contemporary women's human rights issues and women's empowerment. "Ama's House" remembers history, continues to focus on contemporary women's human rights, and hopes to transcend life's traumas, inspire forward momentum, and transform historical wounds into cornerstones of peace, thereby achieving a future of respect, equality, and non-violence.
