Calla lilies are native to South Africa. Because their spathes, when in full bloom, resemble an inverted horseshoe, and the plants grow in water like lotuses, they are known as 'Horseshoe Lotuses' (馬蹄蓮). Currently, the total cultivation area of calla lily fields in Zhuzihu is approximately 13 hectares, accounting for over 80% of Taiwan's total calla lily production. The calla lily season runs annually from January to May, with peak blooming from March to April. Zhuzihu's calla lilies are predominantly white. The elegant white 'spathe' is not the actual flower; instead, many inconspicuous small flowers, separated by gender and arranged in an orderly fashion, bloom on the yellow spadix at the center of the spathe. During the Calla Lily Festival, on holidays (including weekends), a clockwise one-way traffic control measure is implemented in the Zhuzihu area, specifically from Hutian Bridge westwards along Calla Lily Avenue. This one-way control on Calla Lily Avenue extends to the intersection leading to Zhongzheng Mountain. Additionally, the section from Hutian Bridge eastward towards Donghu allows two-way traffic, while the Dinghu section is one-way with no U-turns, guiding traffic to exit via the newly opened flagstone road towards Yangjin Highway. Traffic control in the Zhuzihu area is implemented from 9 AM to 6 PM on holidays, with flexible adjustments based on actual traffic flow. Due to the limited road width in Zhuzihu, visitors are strongly encouraged to use public transportation, such as MRT and buses. For relevant public transport information, please visit the Taipei City Department of Transportation website. 6 Calla Lily Trails, Different Charms Await You If you wish to stretch your legs, the Geotechnical Engineering Office of Taipei City Government recommends 6 riverside trails in Zhuzihu.
