Shanshui Green Ecological Park

Shanshui Green Ecological Park is a park rehabilitated from the landfill area of Nankang's Shanzhuku Sanitary Landfill. It opened on October 27, 2013, covers an area of 21 hectares, and is the largest park and green space in Nankang District. It is also a great place for citizens to relax, injecting new vitality into Nankang. The Shanzhuku Sanitary Landfill is located in the Shanzhuku Valley, at the southeastern corner of Nankang District, bordering Shenkeng District of New Taipei City, hence its name. It was Taipei City's second standard sanitary landfill, covering an area of approximately 65 hectares, with a landfill area of 30 hectares and a capacity of about 6.17 million cubic meters. Of the landfill area, 21 hectares have been completely filled. This area has been transformed into a green space through vegetation and greening rehabilitation. Its landscape is vastly different from that of the original landfill, evoking the imagery from the Tang Dynasty poet Liu Zongyuan's "Fisherman" poem: "With a 'hey-ho,' the mountains and waters turn green." Therefore, it was named "Shanshui Green Ecological Park." Many facilities within Shanshui Green Ecological Park were reconstructed using existing abandoned facilities from the site, and interactive and playful environmental education interpretive facilities have also been installed. Additionally, every Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, traditional children's games (stilt walking, rolling iron hoops, spinning tops) and bicycles are available for free public use. The vast grounds are also an excellent spot for flying kites. During the day, the observatory within the park offers distant views of Nankang City and the Neihu mountain area, while at night, visitors can enjoy the nocturnal traffic views of National Freeways No. 3 and No. 5. It is the best recreational place for the whole family to get close to nature and experience ecology.
