Jiqing Community_Christmas Lane

The origin of Jiqing Community's "Christmas Lane" dates back to the eve of Christmas in 1999, when Pastor Lin Kung-chao of the community's "Three Loves Church" moved the Christmas tree from inside the church to the outdoors. Church members in the lane followed suit, decorating their doorways with Christmas lights and singing carols to their neighbors. Subsequently, influenced by the joyful festive atmosphere, residents of the lane joined in year after year. With the meticulous efforts in planning and decoration by Jiqing Community Chief Huang Sheng-zong, carpenter Mr. Wen Yung-yen, Associate Professor Pan Tung-tai of Taipei City University of Science and Technology, and Pastors Lin Kung-chao and Hou Shu-liang of the Three Loves Church, "Christmas Lane" grew in scale and its reputation spread far and wide. Today, around Christmas each year, households in the lane decorating with Christmas displays has become a customary festive activity. Every December, residents in the lane spontaneously begin decorating their homes, some even starting to design and create new themes or installations months in advance. There's an unspoken agreement among the residents that the lights will be lit starting one week before Christmas and remain lit until the Lantern Festival of the following year. The decorations in Jiqing Lane's "Christmas Lane" are organized by household, each featuring different themed installations such as the Jiqing High-Speed Rail, cable cars, helicopters, and the Yellow Duck. Every window sill and courtyard in the lane showcases the residents' elaborate designs. In 2014, Jiqing Community's "Christmas Lane" was even voted by netizens as one of the nation's "Top Ten Romantic Christmas Spots."
