The National Taiwan Arts Education Center, established on March 29, 1957, is Taiwan's first public art institution and the only government agency dedicated to promoting "art education" as its core mission. Its operations are centered on the relationship between "people and art," promoting foundational work in school art education and collaborating with various sectors to advance aesthetic education, with the ultimate goal of achieving "art in daily life and life as art" for all citizens. Located within the Nanhai Academy campus, known for its natural and cultural characteristics, the Center's buildings were constructed in the 1950s, featuring a post-war Chinese classical architectural style. It comprises two main structures: the Nanhai Theater and Nanhai Academy. Additionally, the Nanhai Outdoor Gallery and Nanhai Arts and Culture Plaza are situated nearby. The Center organizes and promotes activities related to school art education research, promotion, and guidance, serving as an important venue for artistic expression, learning, and nurturing creative talent. In 2006 (Republic Era 95), the Taipei City Historic Site Review Committee designated the National Taiwan Arts Education Center's buildings (including the Nanhai Theater and Nanhai Academy) as "historic structures." Together with the neighboring National Education Radio and National Museum of History, they form a unique architectural cluster within the Nanhai Academy campus, possessing significant urban landscape and historical value.
