The Treasure Hill International Artist Village, located by the Gongguan waterfront, encompasses not only the historic Treasure Hill Temple, a city-designated historic site, but also broadly refers to the historical settlement that extended from the vicinity of this temple. This settlement was primarily formed by illegal buildings constructed in the 1960s and 1970s. These buildings, built along the mountain and by the water, are winding, staggered, and complex, showcasing a unique settlement style in Taiwan. In 2004, Treasure Hill was officially registered as a historic building, preserved through the revitalization of its settlement. In 2010, the "Treasure Hill International Artist Village" officially commenced operations, introducing programs such as "Treasure Hill Home," "Artist-in-Residence Program," and "Youth Hostel" based on the concept of "coexistence with the settlement." This approach, integrating art and living, revitalized and preserved Treasure Hill, creating a diverse and rich appearance for the settlement. The "Treasure Hill International Artist Village" has built a platform for matching residents of the settlement with resident artists, injecting new vitality into Treasure Hill. Currently, Treasure Hill International Artist Village features 14 artist studios, serving as workspaces and living spaces for both domestic and international resident artists. In addition, rehearsal rooms, exhibition spaces, and outdoor performance venues have also been planned. Looking out from the green space by the riverside below the settlement, the entire stretch of dilapidated walls extends into a historical cross-section, forming a clue for reading Treasure Hill's rich historical texture and its diverse and ambiguous spatial structure. The "Attic Youth Hostel," featuring 7 rooms, officially began operations in April 2014. The Youth Hostel aims to become a pathway for the settlement, seeking to reveal the imprints of time through its spatial dimensions, embodying a "living" place for human settlement. Simultaneously, through the experience of "dwelling" open to the world, it combines the spirit of natural place and human inhabitation to engage in dialogue with the world. Treasure Hill, located near the water treatment plant under Fuhe Bridge, is a historical settlement with unique landscape characteristics. Its scenery features winding alleys, steps that rise and fall with gentle slopes, and a natural landscape interwoven with scattered settlements built along the surrounding hills. In recent years, through revitalization and preservation policies, the introduction and opening of artist and cultural and creative studios have allowed the public to experience this unique cultural symbiotic settlement, unevenly scattered along the hillside. Furthermore, Treasure Hill also features a mountainside Buddhist temple, dedicated to Guanyin, dating back two to three hundred years, where people can worship and pray for peace. If one wishes to enjoy the river scenery, they can also follow the riverside and cycling paths from Xindian all the way to Tamsui River, enjoying the pleasure of riding in the wind.
