Visitor Essentials

Jiancheng Circle has played a significant role in the developmental history of Taipei's old city district. Its original location, at the convergence of Chongqing North Road, Nanjing West Road, Ningxia Road, and Tianshui Road, was considered the heart of the bustling Dadaocheng area. It not only spurred local commercial prosperity, extending to the surrounding old Jiancheng district, but also nurtured many successful entrepreneurs. Over the years, Jiancheng Circle has undergone several historical transformations. These range from the Dadaocheng Circle air-raid shelter and water reservoir historical site, discovered during foundation excavation for its reconstruction in 2002, to the culinary hub remembered fondly by many. Today, Jiancheng Circle has been transformed into an urban oasis. Besides preserving the original ancient well, it will feature a fountain relaxation area and a shaded urban plaza. Four sets of public artworks, donated by a foundation, will be integrated to commemorate the past and envision the future. This space aims to allow busy citizens to cultivate their minds and bodies through art, foster cultural dialogue, and provide an area for relaxation, recreation, remembrance, and reflection, thereby contributing to the prosperity and development of the West District.
