Located in Taipei's Wanhua (Monga) district, an area rich in profound cultural heritage, the Xiyuan 29 Fashion Creative Base is a three-story red brick building that has transformed from the former Taipei Fashion & Culture Museum into a brand new creative landmark for the apparel industry. Its purpose is to connect closely with the surrounding Monga Apparel Business District (Dali Apparel Business District) to collectively build Taipei's fashion hub. The entire building's design is centered around the concept of a "tree." It aspires to transform into a tree of creativity, deeply drawing nourishment from Wanhua's historical and cultural roots, dedicated to nurturing Taiwan's apparel design talent; subsequently, these creative ideas will branch out, nourishing and revitalizing the surrounding Monga Apparel Business District. One of the base's main missions is to facilitate collaborations between business district vendors and resident designers, establish successful cooperation models, and partner with relevant university departments to offer students internship and visiting opportunities, ensuring design is closely linked with the marketing market and the garment industry ecosystem. The ultimate goal is to showcase Taiwan's design prowess and propel local brands onto the international stage. Stepping into the first-floor lobby, a pure white color scheme serves as the foundation, aiming to create a multi-sensory fashion information space, much like a stylish stage complementing designers' beautiful works. In a corner, there's a coffee bar where visitors can relax with a cup of coffee, admire design-focused apparel, read design-related books, and find their own inspiration. Through video screenings, visitors can learn about Monga's cultural development or the styles of resident designers; an interactive screen also allows for an immersive, somatosensory experience to deeply understand each creator. The second floor serves as a mobile workspace platform for designers, housing their studios, which are not open to the public on weekdays. This is the wellspring of creativity, featuring pattern-making spaces and providing various auxiliary materials, all offered free of charge for designers to unleash their creativity, showcase their strength, and produce apparel that can be considered works of art. Currently, five designers, including Hsu Yu-Chu, Tseng Wei-Hsiang, Kao Sheng-Chung, Lu Hsueh-Cheng, and Shih Yu-Lin, are in residence. In the future, new fashion designers with international market potential will be selected annually to join the residency. The third floor is a space designed for small fashion shows, lectures, or exhibition events. Most notably, the ceiling features movable track partitions, and the spatial layout of these tracks is cleverly designed to resemble a street map of the Monga district, echoing the local cultural connection. This space is also available for rent by design-related departments for holding courses or exhibitions.
