The Neishuangxi Nature Center, located in Shilin District, spans a vast area of 104 hectares, making it Taipei City's largest forest nature park. Due to its rich ecological resources and diverse topography, it rivals the renowned Xitou, earning it the nickname "Taipei's Little Xitou" among hikers. Meticulously redeveloped by the Geotechnical Engineering Office of the Taipei City Government, the center features well-planned hiking trails, observation decks, and access roads. These not only successfully connect the mountain ranges of Shilin and Neihu districts but also integrate surrounding tourist attractions such as Bishan Campsite and Baishihu Rural Community, creating a comprehensive green recreational corridor. The journey is full of surprises starting from the entrance at Bixi Bridge. A stone sculpture of a Taiwanese tree frog at the bridgehead highlights the area's unique and abundant ecology. Next to the bridge, a semi-circular observation deck offers panoramic views of the cascading waters of Neishuangxi Creek and the strangely shaped rocks of Shitoushan (Lion's Head Mountain). Following the hiking trails deeper into the park, a magnificent large-timber observation tower is a must-visit highlight. This 6-meter-high lookout tower is built entirely from ebony wood, with its four support pillars retaining the unique shapes of the original logs. From its platform, visitors can enjoy expansive views of Dalunwei Mountain and Yuanshanzai Mountain. This area is not only a water-rich catchment for Bixi Creek, but its ecology is especially precious because it lies at the confluence of species from the ancient Xueshan (Snow Mountain) Range and the newer Datun Mountain Range, making it a fertile ground for diverse life. Additionally, the park features a solar photovoltaic demonstration system. Through simple interactive experiences, it educates the public on energy conservation and carbon reduction, making it a perfect outdoor classroom that combines life, recreation, and ecological education.
