Visitor Essentials

National Taiwan University Hospital was founded during the Japanese colonial period. It was formerly known as Taipei Hospital, Taiwan Governor-General's Office Taipei Hospital, and Taipei Imperial University Medical School Affiliated Hospital. After the war, it was renamed National Taiwan University College of Medicine Affiliated Hospital. It is the core of Taiwan's modern medical development. The building in the West Campus currently serves as outpatient clinics and some patient wards. This two-story red-brick reinforced concrete building, designed by Mr. Juro Kondo, is in the Renaissance style. Its floor plan features a symmetrical layout, with a central corridor connecting various outpatient clinics and wards. The grand and magnificent main hall is spacious and incorporates numerous Western architectural techniques, making it a masterpiece of modern Western-style architecture. At the time, it was the largest and most modern hospital in Southeast Asia.
