The Postal Museum was established on December 1, 1965, and officially opened to the public on March 20 of the following year, marking the 70th anniversary of Chunghwa Post. At that time, it was established by making minor renovations to the old office building of the former General Post Office in Xindian. However, its remote location, small premises, and a planned road running through it that prevented expansion severely limited the development of the museum's operations. To align with national cultural development and the needs of the postal service, a 10-story building was constructed in Taipei City, situated in Nanhai Academy, and was completed and inaugurated on National Day in 1984.
