228 Peace Memorial Park is an urban park with a classical style, located in the block surrounded by Gongyuan Road, Xiangyang Road, Huaining Street, and Ketagalan Boulevard in Taipei City. The park features a Japanese garden-style pond, an arched bridge, green walking paths, and an open-air music stage. The Taipei 228 Memorial Museum and Monument are also situated within the park. Upon entering, you'll see century-old trees, leisurely pigeons and squirrels, and many local residents playing chess or practicing Tai Chi under the pavilions. The park retains many classical landscapes from the Japanese colonial era's "Taipei New Park," including an elegant Japanese arched bridge, a Chinese-style pavilion by the lotus pond, and a retired old locomotive. Everywhere offers beautiful scenery for photos and is an excellent place to observe the daily rhythm of Taipei citizens. However, the core of this park lies in its quiet and solemn other side. The park's name commemorates the "228 Incident" in Taiwan's modern history. Thus, a towering, uniquely designed "228 Peace Memorial Monument" stands in the center of the park, conveying hopes for peace and reconciliation through its concise and powerful design language. Adjacent to it, the "228 Memorial Museum," converted from an old radio station, serves as an entry point for visitors to deeply understand this period of history.
