Yangmingshuwu, originally known as Zhongxing Guesthouse, was built between 1969 and 1970 (ROC years 58-59). It formerly served as a place for former President Chiang Kai-shek to host domestic and international dignitaries and as a summer retreat. It was the only official residence in Taiwan personally chosen and commissioned by him. Today, it has become an important cultural and historical site and environmental education venue within Yangmingshan National Park, offering various services such as visitor information and guided tours. It is a recreational and educational destination that combines nature and culture, intellect and emotion. Yangmingshuwu is located on Zhongxing Road, covering an area of approximately 15 hectares. In its early days, it was a natural forest area, part of a forest park managed by the Yangmingshan Administration, and once served as a campsite for the Scout Association. Even after Zhongxing Guesthouse and its ancillary buildings were completed in 1970 (ROC year 59), part of the forest area was preserved. In 1979 (ROC year 68), the Central Party History Commission of the Kuomintang (KMT) relocated its offices here. It consolidated all historical materials from Caotun in Nantou and Qingtian, along with the Daxi data room and Zhishan Shuwu's 'Presidential Historical Materials,' in this location to facilitate research and consultation by domestic and international scholars. From then on, Zhongxing Guesthouse was renamed 'Yangmingshuwu'. On September 26, 1997 (ROC year 86), the Kuomintang (KMT) donated the above-ground buildings and management rights of Yangmingshuwu to the Ministry of the Interior, which then transferred them to this office for operation and management. The Yangmingshuwu Management Station was established and officially opened to visitors on June 27, 1998 (ROC year 87). It provides services such as recreational information, guided tours of Zhongxing Guesthouse, film viewing, and model displays. (Content source: Yangmingshuwu official website)
