Visitor Essentials
The National Taiwan Museum, located within Taipei's 228 Peace Memorial Park, is Taiwan's oldest museum. Its main building is a magnificent national historic monument, completed during the Japanese colonial period, blending Greek architectural styles with Roman domes. As you approach, you will be struck by its grand colonnades, intricate carvings, and the massive Roman-style dome above the entrance. Stepping into the high-ceilinged lobby, sunlight streams through the dome's stained-glass skylight, creating a solemn yet elegant atmosphere; simply appreciating the architecture itself is a great pleasure. The museum houses a rich collection of endemic Taiwanese flora and fauna specimens, geological minerals, and precious ethnographic artifacts, fully showcasing the biodiversity and cultural landscape of this land. Among these, one of the museum's treasures, the "Blue Ground with Yellow Tiger Flag," notably witnessed a pivotal moment in Taiwan's modern history.
