Guandu was originally named Gandoumen. Backed by Mount Guanyin and Mount Datun, and facing the Tamsui River, it became a strategically important port. In earlier times, pioneers entered via Guandu Wharf to clear land and settle in northern Taiwan, leading to Guandu's early development. Later, due to siltation at the mouths of the two rivers (Keelung River and Tamsui River), water transportation gradually declined. Guandu Wharf is located next to Guandu Nature Park and Guandu Temple. On holidays or in the evenings, visitors can often be seen strolling and relaxing around the Guandu Wharf area. Many cyclists also arrive from Bali via Guandu Bridge or from Tamsui. The scenery along the route is picturesque, making it an excellent sightseeing spot.
