Daxicuo Water Environmental Education Park

The Daxicuo Water Environmental Education Park was originally a wasteland next to Ziwei Temple in Daxi Village. Through the water quality improvement and waterfront environment revitalization project approved under the Executive Yuan's Forward-looking Infrastructure Program - Water Environment Improvement Plan, it not only provides environmental education but also functions to improve water quality and nurture ecosystems. The park covers an area of 0.65 hectares. It is equipped with an underground gravel contact aeration oxidation tank that has a daily treatment capacity of 3,000 metric tons. This utilizes naturally occurring microorganisms in the water to decompose pollutants. After domestic wastewater is treated, it can reduce biochemical oxygen demand in the water by 66.1%, suspended solids by 79%, and ammonia nitrogen by 85%. This natural purification method differs from traditional wastewater treatment plants that use coagulation and sedimentation. The process does not require adding chemicals, making it extremely environmentally friendly. The Daxicuo Water Environmental Education Park utilizes natural purification methods to improve water quality, developing environmental experiential education that incorporates local cultural and historical characteristics, water purification, and ecological creation. This encourages the public to enhance their environmental awareness, ethics, and responsibility, thereby contributing to the creation of an inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable city. The park is equipped with sports facilities such as basketball, badminton, and tennis courts, as well as children's play equipment, an environmental education classroom, an artificial wetland, and a bird-watching pavilion. It is Chiayi City's first multifunctional venue integrating water purification, ecological conservation, environmental education, and leisure recreation. Furthermore, the park is located on the bicycle route from the city center to the flower fields, making it suitable for a stop and visit.
