Dr. Hsu Shih-hsien, respectfully known as "Chiayi Mazu Po," achieved over a dozen "firsts" in Taiwan throughout her career, from practicing medicine to engaging in politics. These include being the first female medical doctor, middle school principal, city councilor, mayor, and legislator. She is recognized as a historical figure in Taiwan. To honor her, the National Culture and Arts Foundation installed a 170-centimeter-tall wooden relief inlaid with bronze at her former residence. They also published the book "Traces of Women's Steps," featuring Dr. Hsu Shih-hsien's wedding photo on the cover, affirming her many important achievements in healing people and serving the nation. The "Female Cultural Landmark" on the gate wall of Hsu Shih-hsien's former residence was designed and created by Chiayi City female artist Wu Juan. It is a 170-centimeter-tall rectangular wooden relief inlaid with bronze. (Hsu Shih-hsien's former residence is a private property and is not open to the public.) The hinoki cypress material incorporates the imagery of the forestry industry from Hsu Shih-hsien's era. The bead curtain above symbolizes women's status, while the lotus flower in the design aims to honor Dr. Hsu's image of integrity in politics. This "Female Cultural Landmark" is one of 17 such landmarks designated by the National Culture and Arts Foundation for pioneering and historical women and women's activity spaces in Taiwan.
