'Egrets Bridge Spanning the Waves' - One of the former Eight Scenic Spots of Zhuluo. After every heavy rain, the river water would surge, with turbulent waves on both banks, resembling ten thousand galloping horses – a truly spectacular sight. Therefore, 'Egrets Bridge Spanning the Waves' was designated as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Zhuluo in the early post-WWII period (1948). After the Egret Bridge was completed, it not only facilitated transportation for residents on both sides but also gradually became the primary bridge for traffic from Chiayi City to Alishan, leading to a rapid increase in pedestrian and vehicular movement. The Origin of 'Junhui Bridge': Later, the Egret Bridge was destroyed by flood during the great flood of August 7, 1959 (the 48th year of the Republic, commonly known as the August 7th Flood). The national army officers and soldiers stationed there then undertook the reconstruction work. It was finally completed and opened to traffic in 1960 (the 49th year of the Republic). At that time, to commemorate and acknowledge the diligent efforts of the national army personnel, 'Egret Bridge' was renamed 'Junhui Bridge.' This is the origin of the name Junhui Bridge. Historical Tidbit: In 1933 (the 8th year of Showa, during the Japanese colonial period), the Chiayi City Office constructed a new concrete bridge here. It was over 500 chi long, over 7 zhang high, with railings on both sides, and its entire body was painted off-white. From a distance, it resembled a flock of egrets flying neatly in rows over the water. Thus, the bridge was named 'Egret Bridge' (also known as Guolu Bridge) at that time. Landmark Construction: The original concrete bridge was destroyed; today, it is the Junhui Bridge.
