The Chiayi Municipal Museum, located next to the Chiayi Sawmill, was established in 2004. At its inception, it was the only large-scale, comprehensive, multi-functional museum in the Chiayi area, focusing its exhibitions on Chiayi's natural landscapes, such as its geology and fossils. In 2018, the museum closed for exhibition renovation and was re-positioned as Chiayi City's "City Museum." With the new mission of "Chiayi locals caring about Chiayi matters, and visitors exploring Chiayi City," it now showcases Chiayi City's cultural characteristics, citizen history, and living memories, aspiring to be a museum for both the city and its residents. Having redefined itself as a "City Museum," the Chiayi Municipal Museum offers a brand-new space and content, allowing visitors to view Chiayi in a new light. The first floor houses the "Explore Chiayi" Children's Hall, where children can experience the city's history through play. The second floor features the "Prospect of Zhu-luo" permanent exhibition, inviting visitors to see Chiayi, its history, its future, and themselves through the exhibits. The third floor is the "Drama on Architecture – Listening to Temple Figures Tell Stories" Koji Pottery Hall, presenting Chiayi's distinctive craft of Koji pottery in a museum-within-a-museum format. Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 to 17:00.
