Visitor Essentials
Taiwan's only Koji Pottery specialty museum, located in the Cultural Center opposite Beimen Station of the Alishan Forest Railway. Chiayi is the hometown of Koji Pottery, which Japan refers to as "Chiayi-yaki" (Chiayi Ware), and most Koji Pottery artists learned their craft in Chiayi. In Taiwan, Koji Pottery is informally known as "Koji," "Koji figures," or "Koji-á." Early applications were primarily for temple architectural decoration. Its traditional themes center around figures such as fishermen, woodcutters, farmers, and scholars, complemented by insects, fish, birds, beasts, flowers, plants, artifacts, and theatrical scenes, creating compositions with clear primary and secondary elements and a harmonious overall appearance.
