The Nangang Bird Watching Area is a small yet beautiful ecological zone where different migratory birds visit throughout the year. On the tranquil lake, Eurasian Teals can often be seen swimming leisurely. Several ponds on the inner side of the levee, naturally formed from abandoned fish farms, have become resting places for wild birds after foraging. According to survey records from the Hsinchu Bird Society, in addition to a large number of bird species such as herons (Ardeidae), swallows (Hirundinidae), and munias/finches (Estrildidae), a considerable number of waterfowl species (Anatidae) can also be found during the transition between autumn and winter, including Eurasian Teals, Northern Pintails, and Mallards. Raptors such as Ospreys, Eastern Marsh Harriers, Peregrine Falcons, and Common Kestrels are also occasionally spotted.
