The Hsinchu City God Temple is located on Zhongshan Road in Hsinchu City's North District and is designated a municipal historic monument. It was founded in 1748, initiated by Tamsui Sub-prefect Zeng Yueying. In 1875, when Tamsui and Hsinchu were separated and Taipei Prefecture was established, Hsinchu remained the prefectural seat. Consequently, the City God was promoted to Prefectural City God – Weilinggong. Its incense offerings are exceptionally strong, earning it the reputation of 'Hsinchu's City God, Beigang's Mazu'. At that time, its temple complex was the largest in Taiwan. The market stalls and street food vendors in front of the Hsinchu City God Temple have become one of Hsinchu's unique features.
