The Xiangshan Tianhou Temple is oriented with its rear slightly north of east, facing the northwest. In earlier years, it was located near the seashore, with remnants of breakwaters still visible around the temple's outer plaza. In recent years, the construction of the West Coast Expressway has significantly pushed the coastline further outwards. The entrance of the Sanchuan Hall (front hall) extends in a straight line, with the central bay approximately twice as wide as the side bays. This design not only highlights the hierarchical relationship but also creates a superior visual aesthetic. The structure utilizes three shared columns between the front and back, a common architectural form for small traditional buildings. The straight-line entrance makes the temple appear expansive. Additionally, the central bay features spiral-patterned drum stones instead of the stone lions often found as pedestals in other temples. This distinctive feature, due to Mazu being the main deity, highlights the unique architectural characteristics of the Tianhou Temple.
