During the Japanese colonial period, this historic building served as the 'Dongshi Prefectural Office,' and is now the Puzi Precinct of the County Police Bureau. It shares a deep, foundational connection with Chiayi's current administrative divisions. This quaint and elegant brick and tile building was originally constructed in response to the administrative regional reform during the Taishō era of Japanese rule. At that time, the Prefectural Office had combined administrative and police functions. The two-story building included offices, a fan-shaped detention center, an auditorium, and other facilities. After enduring many changes and vicissitudes over time, the Dongshi Prefectural Office largely retains its original appearance. It currently serves as the Puzi Police Precinct and is also the only remaining highest-level government office from the Japanese colonial period in Chiayi County. Its historical and cultural significance is remarkably rich.
