Visitor Essentials

The Caoling Historic Trail is situated at the border of Toucheng Township in Yilan County and Gongliao District in New Taipei City. The trail spans approximately 8.5 kilometers, with its two ends at Dali Tiangong Temple in Yilan and Yuanwang Kengkou in New Taipei. It is a remnant of the northern route of the Tamsui-Kavalan Historic Trail from the Qing Dynasty, and currently one of the most well-preserved Qing Dynasty trails in Taiwan. The Caoling Historic Trail was not only the main official road connecting the Taipei Basin to the Lanyang Plain, but also a vital artery for transportation, economy, and cultural exchange within the region. Today, the trail is managed by the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration, preserving valuable historical relics along its route and making it a popular hiking destination.
