Pao Tai Shan Scenic Area

Pao Tai Shan Scenic Area is located in Su'ao Township, Yilan County. Situated on hilly terrain adjacent to the Suhua Highway, at an altitude of approximately 200 meters, its commanding elevated position makes it an important local site combining historical relics and natural landscapes. In earlier times, this area was a strategic military stronghold. In the 15th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign (1889) during the Qing Dynasty, recognizing the external threats faced by the Su'ao region, the Qing court specifically established two coastal defense forts here and constructed barracks to guard against potential French attacks. It served as a crucial stronghold for the Su'ao garrison in their resistance against the French, possessing profound historical significance.
