Tunnel 88 is located below Niujiao Ridge in Nangan Township. It was originally a mountain cave where soldiers and civilians took refuge from pirates. Later, it was expanded by the military into a combat tunnel, and was named on its completion day, which coincided with President Chiang Kai-shek's 88th birthday. Due to the long-term humidity inside the tunnel, which was not conducive to tank maintenance, it was then converted into a telecommunications center. Later, it was handed over to Matsu Distillery for wine storage, as its stable temperature and humidity are very beneficial for winemaking. Currently, it stores various types of alcoholic beverages, including aged yellow wine, kaoliang, and aged kaoliang, and is globally renowned under the brand name 'Tunnel 88'.
