Kinmen National Park

Kinmen County, formerly known as Wuzhou, was a flourishing center for civil service examinations and produced many famous generals during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Koxinga (Zheng Chenggong) once stationed troops here. In modern times, it experienced the Battle of Guningtou and the August 23rd Artillery Battle, earning renown for its battlefield landscapes and maritime park features. Kinmen National Park covers an area of 3,528.74 hectares and is managed by the Kinmen National Park Headquarters under the National Parks Agency, Ministry of the Interior. It is divided into five recreational areas: Guningtou, Mount Taiwu, Gugang, Mashan, and Lieyu (Little Kinmen). In addition to historical battle monuments, traditional settlements, and cultural relics, its geology features hilly terrain composed of granite gneiss. Its natural environment is unique due to its proximity to the Chinese mainland, serving as a stopover for migratory birds. With 199 species of wild birds discovered, it holds significant value for research and interpretation.
