Qimei Island

Qimei Township is located at the southernmost tip of the Penghu Islands. In the early Qing Dynasty, it was known as "South Islet" or "Great Islet." Later, in commemoration of the unwavering integrity and moving deeds of the seven women, it was renamed "Qimei Township" as a lasting memorial. Qimei Island is a dissected plateau. Due to the action of flowing water and the geological characteristics of the rock, river valley topography has formed in Xihu Village on the north side and Pinghe Village on the west side. The entire island is a tilted plateau, higher in the northeast and lower in the southwest, and is divided into northern and southern parts by an east-west trending ridge (commonly known as Zhongqi Mountain). Qimei Island has the second highest elevation in the Penghu Islands, second only to Maoyu (Cat Island). Thirty nautical miles southwest of Qimei Island lies the Nanan Fishing Ground, famous throughout Taiwan and a renowned fishing ground since ancient times. Qimei is rich in marine resources, and most island residents primarily engage in fishing and seafood processing, with agriculture as a secondary occupation. Archaeological discoveries in Nangang, Donghu, and other areas have revealed remnants of stone tool workshops dating back approximately four thousand years, indicating that the island was developed very early and is an important cultural heritage site. Perhaps due to heaven's affection for this hidden gem of an island, Qimei Island is blessed with inherent beauty. Its uniquely blessed natural landscapes and rich cultural charm, refined and sculpted by time, resemble a magnificent painting imbued with poetry, life, and stories. In recent years, with the popularity of backpacking and in-depth travel, it has become one of the best travel destinations for ecological experiences, romantic pursuits, and stress relief. Tourist attractions include the Tomb of the Seven Beauties, Wangfu Stone (Husband-Watching Stone), Yuelei Bay, Dashih Scenic Area, Niumuping, Little Taiwan, Twin-Heart Stone Weir (a must-visit for couples, incredibly romantic with its interlocking heart shapes), Qimei Visitor Center, etc.
