Yushan National Park - Nanan Visitor Center

Yushan National Park is located in the central part of Taiwan. It was established on April 10, 1985 (the 74th year of the Republic of China), becoming the second national park in our country. The park features towering mountains and steep ridges, with thirty of Taiwan's hundred famous peaks over 3,000 meters located within its boundaries. Some peaks are majestic and magnificent, while others are uniquely beautiful with their strange peaks and elegant forms, creating a breathtaking landscape. It is a typical mountain national park. The entire park is vast, covering four counties and cities: Nantou, Chiayi, Kaohsiung, and Hualien. It is generally divided into the Northwest District, Southern District, and Eastern District. With a total area of 103,121.4 hectares, it is the largest national park in Taiwan. The Nanan Visitor Center and Walami Trail are located in the Eastern District of Yushan National Park. The main access route is Provincial Highway 30 (Yuchang Highway). From the intersection of Provincial Highway 9 and Provincial Highway 30 in Yuli, turn onto Provincial Highway 30 and drive approximately 9 kilometers towards Zhuoqing Village to reach the Nanan Visitor Center. The center is equipped with an audio-visual room and an exhibition hall. In addition to indoor guided tours, it also offers outdoor escorted interpretive services. Outside the center lies an expansive rice cultivation area of over 30 hectares, commonly known as 'The First Field Below Yushan'. During harvest season, the golden rice stalks create a breathtaking wave-like spectacle. From the center to the Walami Trailhead (which is also the starting point of Provincial Highway 30) is approximately a 6-kilometer drive. The section of the trail from the trailhead to Jiasin is about 4.5 kilometers. This trail is renowned for its magnificent scenery, including Shanfeng Waterfall, suspension bridges, and mid-to-low elevation broadleaf forests. It is suitable for family outings and hikes. ※An entry permit is required for the Walami Trail beyond the 7-kilometer mark.
