Changchun Shrine Trail

The trail is 1.35 kilometers long, with a one-way walk taking approximately an hour. From the parking lot at the 187-kilometer mark of the Central Cross-Island Highway, a trail leads to Changchun Shrine. After passing through a dark, short tunnel, the famous Changchun Shrine appears before your eyes. The "zigzag" trail from Changchun Shrine to Changuang Temple is only 1.35 kilometers long, with steep stairs all the way. Visitors climbing up might want to slow down and enjoy the beautiful scenery. After about 20 minutes of walking, you will reach the Dongtian Xianfu (Immortal's Grotto), built by carving into the cliff. Peeling paint reveals the history of the grotto's excavation. There is no lighting inside the cave, but a Buddha statue and murals can be seen in the dimness. Then turn left and head down, and you'll find the Taroko Pavilion, now hidden amidst overgrown weeds, straight ahead. Turn back onto the original path and go up, crossing a small suspension bridge, and you'll reach Changuang Temple. Changuang Temple has a road connecting to the Central Cross-Island Highway, which you can follow back to the Changchun Shrine parking lot.
