National Museum of Prehistory - Kangle Main Museum

The National Museum of Prehistory traces its origins to the 1980 new construction project for Taitung Station on the South-Link Railway. This project led to the discovery of the Beinan Site, which not only holds the most complete settlement in Taiwan's archaeological history but also features the largest slate coffin burial complex in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim. In response to the ensuing calls for cultural heritage preservation, the museum established its Kangle Main Building south of Kangle Station in Taitung City. The Beinan Site itself was designated as a Heritage Park. Additionally, the Nanke Archaeological Museum was founded within the Tainan Science Park (Tainan Campus) in Tainan City, an area recognized for possessing the most complete cultural layers in southwestern Taiwan.
