Visitor Essentials

The National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium (NMMBA) in Pingtung has been designated a three-star must-visit attraction by the Michelin Green Guide and was once ranked by a travel website as the fourth-best aquarium in Asia and the top in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. It serves both tourism and educational purposes, dedicated to promoting marine conservation and educating the public about marine ecosystems. The NMMBA features three main exhibition halls: the Waters of Taiwan, Coral Kingdom, and World Waters Pavilion, showcasing diverse marine life and creating many popular photo spots. The aquarium also hosts star creatures such as beluga whales, penguins, and seals, inviting you to explore its wonders. Additionally, daily scheduled feeding presentations and touch pools offer live activities that allow visitors to better understand the marvels of the marine world. In December 2023, the NMMBA unveiled Taiwan's first blue whale skeleton specimen. This exhibit, which gathered input from numerous domestic and international scholars and was restored over many years through collaborative efforts by various professional teams, also marks the first time globally that detailed structures of a blue whale skull have been presented, allowing more people to learn the story of this fallen giant.
