Visitor Essentials

Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area encompasses two major scenic areas: Dapeng Bay and Xiaoliuqiu. Dapeng Bay's northern boundary is formed by Provincial Highway No. 17 and County Road No. 63 (Pingtung 63). Its eastern boundary follows the border of Linbian Township, connecting to an existing drainage ditch embankment, then turning to County Road No. 12-1 and No. 128. The western boundary is defined by the existing urban planning residential zone line of Donggang, connecting to the Xingu (New Ditch) of Donggang Township. To the south, it extends 600 meters seaward from the high tide line. The Xiaoliuqiu Scenic Area encompasses Xiaoliuqiu Island itself and extends 600 meters seaward from the high tide line. Dapeng Bay is Taiwan's largest lagoon, and its marine area is rich in flora and fauna. It features unique mangroves like the *Avicennia marina* (grey mangrove) and coastal plants such as beach morning glory (*Ipomoea pes-caprae*), *Excoecaria agallocha* (milky mangrove), and *Clerodendrum inerme*. The animal life is predominantly birds, fish, and crustaceans. A total of 95 bird species have been observed, including migratory and transient birds. Fish species include groupers, among others. The fiddler crabs active in the wetlands are particularly distinctive. Xiaoliuqiu is the only coral island among the 14 affiliated islands of Taiwan, boasting rich underwater ecological resources. The entire island is dotted with unique rock formations and magnificent marine scenery. There are nearly a hundred temples of various sizes in Xiaoliuqiu and Dapeng Bay, many of which are distributed in the neighboring townships of Donggang, Linbian, and Nanzhou. Among them, Donglong Temple in Donglong Village, Donggang Township, is the oldest. Its triennial 'Wangye Welcome Festival' (for peace) is the largest Wangye faith activity in Taiwan. The seafood here is famous throughout Taiwan, known for its quality and reasonable prices. The 'Three Treasures of Donggang' – bluefin tuna, sakura shrimp, and mullet roe – are culinary delicacies. Besides its unique 'unchopped and knotless' sausage, the most popular souvenir in Xiaoliuqiu today is twisted fried dough snacks.
